Its been a year since some tech bloggers & other online newspapers announced that WiMax service will be launch this Q4 in the Philippines. But its already year end of 2008 until now there is no WiMax services from Philippine telcos. Is it because of the NBN ZTE Deal controversy? :sigh:
WiMAX is a telecommunications technology that offers wireless data services over long distances. It is one of more recent technologies that hope to provide an alternative wireless broadband service.
"WiMAX, meaning Worldwide Interoperability
for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications
technology that provides for the wireless transmission
of data using a variety of transmission modes,
from point-to-point links to portable internet access.
The technology provides up to 75 Mb/s symmetric
broadband speed without the need for cables.
The technology is based on the IEEE 802.16
standard(also called Broadband Wireless Access).
The name "WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX
Forum, which was formed in June 2001
to promote conformity and interoperability
of the standard. The forum describesWiMAX
as "a standards-based technology enabling the
delivery of last mile wireless broadband access
as an alternative to cable and DSL-Wikipedia"

Nokia 5800 tube
- Article wrote by Admin
- With 0 comments
I've previously read about the Nokia Tube at the Symbian Freak web site. Is the Nokia 5800 or popularly known as the Nokia Tube the much deserving mobile phone that will go head to head with Apple’s iPhone and HTC/Google/T-Mobile’s G1 mobile phone?
Apart from the usual multimedia mobile phone specs, what makes the Nokia 5800 mobile phone interesting is that it has a touch screen or finger touch operation and the resoluton is 640 x 360 — a lot higher that the 480 x 320 resolution of the iPhone and the recently launched Android-based T-Mobile G1 cell phone.
We might not be waiting that much longer because I read a post about it’s pending release and Symbian Freak has also published a post about the Nokia 5800 being available for pre-order already.
Still not much specs to go with except the ones below:
Measurements: 111 × 52 × 14.5 mm, and weighs only 104 grams.
16 million color TFT LCD
640 × 360 pixel resolution
16:9 display mode
Fifth edition of Symbian S60.
finger touch operation will provide vibration feedback function.
3.2 megapixel Carl Zeiss optical lens with autofocus
Dual LED flash
Built-in GPS
140 MB RAM
GSM / GPRS / EDGE / WCDMA / HSDPA / WLAN wireless networking and Bluetooth technology.
3.5 mm Headset interface
TV-out interface
BL-5J 1150mah Battery

Large Hadron Collider
- Article wrote by Admin

Cern has built a 7 mile and $9 billion machine to recreate the conditions after the Big Bang.
Word on the street is that there is a chance that it could cause a black hole or black holes that would destroy our universe.
Info from cern's website:
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles – the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionise our understanding, from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe.
Two beams of subatomic particles called 'hadrons' – either protons or lead ions – will travel in opposite directions inside the circular accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. Physicists will use the LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy. Teams of physicists from around the world will analyse the particles created in the collisions using special detectors in a number of experiments dedicated to the LHC.
full information written bu CERN @: http://public.web.cern.ch/public/en/LHC/LHC-en.html
It is said that the pressure inside of one particle weighs as much as the whole universe. So how could we keep something like this contained?
Info from lhcdefence.org
Black holes are usually conceived as being the remnant of a massive star that has used up its nuclear fuel, and crushed itself under its own weight. Its gravitational pull at its surface then becomes so great nothing can escape, not even light. It becomes literally a “hole” in the fabric of space-time, and anything that enters can never escape.
You can read more against LHC@ website listed above.
There is a lot more to the story, I haven't even swept the tip of the iceberg. I listed websites for you to get the full idea.
What I want to know:
Is it worth the risk of destroying our universe to gain this knowledge even if the risk is small?
I have heard that there is a .01% chance of a black hole danger, and I have also heard that there is a 16% chance. Does the percentage make a difference as far as taking the risk?
What great knowledge would we gain and what would we use it for? This will take some research.
I would love to hear your thoughts.
